Vision:

The vision is to have a Masters team in Florida that balances the playing field of competition and spirit; where its players consider good manners, behavior, and spirit, as or more important, than merited play, counting mistakes, and keeping score.

In 2013, I was inspired by playing with a team of great spirited players who were not considered the best athletes. After that season, I realized that I have played on teams with the highest of talent that inevitably developed a disease of poor spirit, which turned me off and limited my enjoyment of the game.  So I thought,  can we focus on making spirit and team play the priority? We need a team with a conscience.

Mission Statement:

The goal of Woolly Mammoth is to eliminate our destructive behaviors, and to create within ourselves and teammates a reason for playing ultimate for fun, camaraderie, new friends, family, and the love of the game.

Cutting out the characteristics that have no place in the game today: negativity, brutality, denial, cockiness, bullheadedness, and putting in its place the vision of why we play: love of the game, each other, good spirit, and good sportsmanship.

This team is for the team player who considers winning as a bonus and NOT the goal. Frisbee should not be dead serious.

Oath:

Players joining Woolly Mammoth must agree to the following Oath:

  • I will focus my WHOLE BEST and HOLD MYSELF and MY ENTIRE TEAM accountable to the very best of SPIRIT, FAIR PLAY, and GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP, with CALM, TRUTHFUL, and SUPPORTIVE CONFIDENCE.
  • I will SELF MANAGE through mistakes, miscommunications, and pressures from both team mates and opponents, with GRACE, HONESTY, and A GOOD SPIRIT.
  • If I CANNOT maintain my best behavior as a constant I will REMOVE myself from the situation, point, practice, game, tournament, or team.
  • If I cannot SELF MANAGE, I am fully aware I will be held accountable by my teammates and captains, and a vote toward just disciplinary action will be applied. (Of course the severest penalty for multiple and/or severe infractions will be removal from the team.)

Conclusion:

We hope you share our passion, vision, and mission for Woolly Mammoth.  At the end of the day, ultimate is just a game we all enjoy being a part of and playing.  However, there should be no room for the negativity, bad behavior, and poor spirit that has become synonymous with competitiveness in the game we love.  This team will not make winning the priority, but rather put first good spirit, team play, and love of the game as the reason we play.  Let’s make the game renewed like when we first played and fell in love with Ultimate.
